Hello there.
Earlier this week, I was on a Delta flight that was delayed for 13 hours. Six of those hours were spent on the runway. Not included in that total are the thirty minutes we waited for a mechanic who had to be called when we finally landed to open the door, which was stuck. All this for a one-hour and eighteen-minute flight. Did I mention that I got off the plane at 4 am? Yep.
I normally bring too many books when I travel, but as luck would have it, I decided to travel light and had only one book with me, Headshot, which I finished shortly into the second hour. I fully recommend it, by the way. I was initially put off by the premise of girls’ boxing, but was drawn in by all its well-deserved accolades. The book has stuck with me. You should read it.
Anyway, it will come as no surprise to you that at various times when I felt cramped, antsy, or claustrophobic, I meditated to experience a greater sense of space and expansiveness. It helped more than anything else.
I used a mantra meditation similar to the one in the recording below. Mantra-based meditation provides me with relief when I am most anxious, and I am happy to share the technique. You don’t even need to use a specific mantra; any sound will do. Try it the next time you feel stressed, and let me know if it helps.
Be well,
