How are you doing?
Over a typical week, I am honored to interact with quite a few people with at least one thing in common. They all want to feel better. The details vary, but the quest for relief is consistent. It’s compelling to see people showing up for themselves, and it’s inspiring to welcome new friends to the community. I see people in person and on Zoom for meditation and yoga classes and talks, and I read your thoughtful emails, including those in response to these Sunday posts. I’ve noticed that there is usually a prevailing “mood.” It often corresponds to world events, and this has been a tumultuous week in that regard.
And sometimes, life challenges us.
We all go through difficulties and sometimes react in ways that do not support our best interests. Progress is not linear, and when we find it hard to cope, it does not mean we give up. We are usually best served by adopting the mindset that we should continue caring for ourselves by keeping up with our wellness practices. Have faith that things will get better. If you are consistent in good times, it will serve as a balm in more challenging periods.
Today’s meditation practice is specifically for difficult moments — moments when seeing the good is hard. But it’s a helpful meditation for everyone. It’s partly about centering yourself, literally in your body, and in space as you meditate. Do you lean forward as you sit as though you anticipate something happening? Are you slumped over and sleepy? How are you showing up? These details matter. Mostly, it will help you find an anchor to hold you when you need steadying.
Finding ease is about showing up with an open heart, no matter what you are experiencing. It’s about finding and returning to a steadiness of mind as many times as you stray away. It’s about connecting with a calm understanding that allows you to flow with the constantly changing and shifting cycles in our individual and collective world.
I hope this meditation helps you do that.
Finding Steadiness in Difficult Times
Have a great week.
