Hi there,
Witnessing the destruction from wildfires this week has been devastating. It’s a terrible, heartbreaking situation and a glaring reminder of our vulnerability. My heart is with all of you who have been affected. In times like these, stress can be overwhelming.
The world does not stop when things get difficult. It keeps going. We just want to slow things down so we can catch our breath. But that’s not how it works. Still, we must take time to regroup as we can not be effective advocates for ourselves or helpers for others when we are exhausted.
This is the meditation I turn to when I need a reset. This one helps me feel a little more refreshed when I am tired or overwhelmed. Doing this lying down is the way to go, in my opinion. If you fall asleep, so be it. If you get lost in thought, it’s okay; just come back to the meditation when you are ready. If you need to sit or walk around while you do this, that’s okay too.
My highest hope is that we can all show up for each other. Reach out, ask how you can help, and then do it. We need more of that. United is better than divided.
Stay safe out there, and help where you can.
There are people better equipped to help with how to offer support than me, but the Los Angeles Times has published THIS LIST, and also THIS about where to volunteer this weekend.
I am sending my best to Los Angeles — the people who lost homes, schools, churches, favorite places, and also their sense of safety — and gratitude for everyone helping.
