Hello and welcome back.
Last week’s poll results are in. For those of you who voted the results speak for themselves.
Thank you to all who took the time to consider how you were doing whether or not you voted. Now that you have checked in and might have an idea of where you want to go, you can work on how to get there. That’s good news.
A huge benefit of a consistent mediation practice is an improvement in your ability to notice things.
It might sound underrated, but what a superpower! Going through life more awake to your experience is a gift. We can stop unhelpful patterns and notice when we are overwhelmed and need to do something about it. We can celebrate the little things and be fully present in all of life’s big moments.
Noticing your thoughts is a good first step.
What’s the first thing you thought about when you woke up today?
How would you describe your morning thoughts? Grateful? Positive? Neutral? Something else?
How is the voice in your head treating you? Are you sometimes hard on yourself? Do you ever compare yourself to others and feel like you fall short? Do you feel superior in some way? How does that voice in your head speak to you? You hear it all day every day. It is a constant companion. I hope it is kind.
Our thoughts carry immeasurable power.Â
You are not your thoughts, you know.
When you have a thought that doesn’t support you, acknowledge it, make a note of it if you’re sensing a pattern, and then let it go. Begin again. Have compassion for yourself. Speak to yourself as though you were speaking to your most cherished loved one. Retrain that voice to be nice!
The poll showed that things are difficult for many of us so while you’re at it, take some time today to do something just for you.
Speak gently to yourself. When you are tired, rest. Take care of your body. Eat nutritious food and drink water. Move and stretch. Get out in nature. Be grateful for small things that bring great joy. Do something nice for someone. Make your bed. Spend time with that hobby that got away from you. Let go of things that don’t support you. Meditate.
Stay tuned for next week. We will explore noticing how emotions can show up in unexpected places. You won’t want to miss it.
p.s. Did you know that if you can’t get outside, even looking at photos of nature helps you relax? Try putting a favorite nature photo on your phone. If you have a nature photo that helps you recenter and you want to share it, email it to me, and it could appear at the top of this post and on my Instagram @inner.space.studio. You can also let me know if you want a credit or prefer to be anonymous.
