Hello,
How are you?
In our comparison culture, and especially with social media, it’s easy to fall into the trap of feeling like we don’t measure up. We may develop unreasonable expectations of how we feel we should be. Our perceived failures become exaggerated and our successes are diminished.
Being kind to ourselves helps us shift from self-criticism to self-acceptance. Accepting, even embracing, all of who we are— the parts we like, and the parts we aren’t as proud of, is a much healthier alternative.
Did you see the hubbub this week about Catherine, Princess of Wales? Whatever happened, she was trying to get some rest and privacy. Because our culture has evolved to a place where we must know all things at all times, she must have felt pressure to present herself as “better” than she was. Isn’t that what doctoring photos is all about? Erasing imperfections? Her actions had the opposite effect of what she intended and a debacle ensued, creating more chaos and questions. She owed herself more than that, and frankly, we owe her more than that too.
I hope that you are finding that your meditation practice is helping you be kinder to yourself and to those around you.
Meditation: Accepting Yourself Just as You Are
